BACKGROUND
I was born in the Bay Area, California and I have been a resident of Arizona for over 10 years. I am a full time teacher at an art-focused charter school, where I also attended high school for visual arts. As a teenager, I had the opportunity to explore the local art community by being a part of the Visions Program at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art. After high school, I attended Arizona State University and received my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Photography.
MEDIUM
Making art, I work with a range of mediums, such as photography, acrylic painting, embroidery, and collage. I often work with mixed media and enjoy the experimental aspect of playing with multiple mediums. I find inspiration in my everyday life and nature. I value art as an outlet of personal expression, stress relief, and mindfulness.
INSPIRATION
My artwork explores themes of human emotion and experiences through the use of floral symbolism. I view flowers as an apt representation of human beauty and resilience, with a language of their own. My stylized depictions of flora, along with incorporating abstract elements, convey my ideas while drawing attention to color, form, and overall mood. My work incorporates found and repurposed maps, as this allows me to explore concepts of self discovery and one’s journey in life. I also use them as a mode to explore ideas related to time and location. My hope is that my art draws in people who resonate with it, and that it sparks energy and joy inside their hearts.
